Unveiling Hidden Stellar Aggregates in the Milky Way: 1656 New Star Clusters Found in Gaia EDR3

چکیده

We report 1,656 new star clusters found in the Galactic disk (|b|<20 degrees) beyond 1.2 kpc, using Gaia EDR3 data. Based on an unsupervised machine learning algorithm, DBSCAN, and followed our previous studies, we utilized a unique method to do data preparation obtained clustering coefficients, which proved be effective way search blindly for clusters. tabulated physical parameters member stars of clusters, presented some interesting examples, including globular cluster candidate. The are available at CDS via anonymous ftp https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/ftp/vizier.submit//he22c. examined discoveries discussed their statistical properties. proper motion dispersions radii were same as previously reported ones. kpc older than those solar neighborhood, objects third quadrant lowest line-of-sight extinctions. Combined with results, total population detected through was 2,541, corresponding 55% all newly published era. number cataloged also increased nearly six thousand. In near future, it is necessary make unified confirmation determination

Star Streams in the Milky Way Halo

The last 10-20 years has seen a profound shift in views of how the Galaxy’s halo formed. The idea of a monolithic early collapse of a single system (Eggen, Lynden-Bell and Sandage 1962) has been challenged by observations at high redshift and by cosmological models of structure formation. These findings imply that we should see clear evidence of hierarchical formation processes in nearby galaxi...

Star Formation in the Local Milky Way

Studies of molecular clouds and young stars near the sun have provided invaluable insights into the process of star formation. Indeed, much of our physical understanding of this topic has been derived from such studies. Perhaps the two most fundamental problems confronting star formation research today are: 1) determining the origin of stellar mass and 2) deciphering the nature of the physical ...

Star Formation in the Milky Way

How and where do stars form? One of the challenges in star formation theory today is describing the different processes by which stars form. They form not only in isolation, but also in groups of 10-100 stars and in clusters of more than 100 stars. The particular mode of star formation may depend on the initial conditions. Stars form in molecular clouds, regions of dense gas and dust, that can ...

Gaia: Origin and Evolution of the Milky Way

GAIA is a short-listed candidate for the ESA Cornerstone mission C5, meeting the ESA Survey Committee requirement for an observatory mission, dedicated to astrometry, providing 10 micro-arcsecond accuracy at 15th magnitude. The GAIA mission concept follows the dramatic success of the ESA HIPPARCOS mission, utilising a continuously scanning spacecraft, accurately measuring 1-D coordinates along ...

The vertical metallicity gradients of mono-age stellar populations in the Milky Way with the RAVE and Gaia data

We investigate the vertical metallicity gradients of five mono-age stellar populations between 0 and 11Gyr for a sample of 18 435 dwarf stars selected from the cross-matched Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution and Radial Velocity Experiment (RAVE) Data Release 5. We find a correlation between the vertical metallicity gradients and age, with no vertical metallicity gradient in the youngest populatio...
